Therapy with Teens

I have extensive experience working with adolescents and I work with people 12 years of age and up.

Teenage years are challenging, regardless of what sort of environment or parental support one has. Balancing developing independence with accepting guidance can be difficult for many parents and their teens to negotiate. Adolescents often struggle with many difficult questions about themselves, their friends and family, their future, and about life in general and this can impact mood and behavior. You may be seeking therapy for yourself or for your teen because you need additional support to get a fresh perspective on your concern.

Some reasons teens come to therapy are:

  • Low self-esteem
  • Poor school performance
  • Family problems including divorce
  • Depression, Bipolar or Anxiety
  • Issues with friends
  • Body image issues
  • Dating and sexuality
  • Trauma

Because client privacy is an essential part of what makes therapy work, we will come to an agreement at the start of therapy that makes sense for parents and teens about what sort of communication will be necessary to make therapy most effective.
